New Report: Incremental and radical hybrid business models – Challenging business as usual

Antwerp Management School has recently published a report on “hybrid business models“. The purpose of the report was to conceptualize sustainability-driven value creation within and beyond existing business models and to identify examples, mainly from Belgium and the Netherlands, of hybrid business models.

The report distinguishes between incremental hybrid business models (aimed at the creation and capture of sustainability value within the existing business model) and radical hybrid business models (aimed at the creation and capture of sustainability value through innovative business models). Interviews with entrepreneurs, directors, and experts were held to identify, among other things, driving forces of these hybrid business models and implementation barriers.

The report concludes by stating that, in order to successfully develop hybrid business models, three types of sustainability intelligence are needed: naive, native, and narrative intelligence.
