3D Investment Foundation and The Natural Step Canada released the first public draft of the Future-Fit Business Benchmark. It is a tool to help companies and investors quantify how their actions are helping – or hindering – progress toward a flourishing future.
When it comes to a company’s environmental and social performance, how much is enough? How would we know a truly sustainable company if we saw one? And can we tell how far away any company is from where it needs to be?
Given the range and urgency of problems we as a society face – from increasing inequality to more extreme weather events – these sound like obvious questions to ask. But current metrics – including over 100 sustainability ratings, rankings and indices – can’t answer them.
The Future-Fit Business Benchmark is designed to meet this need, by helping companies measure – and manage – the gap between what they are doing today and what science tells us they will need to do tomorrow.
The Future-Fit Business Benchmark is an open source, collaborative initiative. Comments on the Public Draft 1.0 are welcome!
The benchmark is free for anyone to use. We’d love to hear what you think of it, and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you’d like to help us finish what we’ve started.
